IT professionals don't just end up behind a desk here

I started at Jan De Nul as a Technical Support Engineer and recently became part of the server and data center team as a Junior System Engineer. Our team is responsible for the management and maintenance of the central server infrastructure at the offices in Aalst and Luxembourg. We also draw up the plans for the IT infrastructure on our sites and on board of our vessels.

We pass these plans on to our colleagues of the installation team. They then travel to the sites and vessels worldwide to provide them with the necessary IT installations.

That was, by the way, my function when I started at Jan De Nul. I still remember the trip to the Simon Stevin where we had to renew the entire IT installation on board. In normal circumstances, such a job takes two weeks, but after three days already, the vessel suddenly had to leave for a project. That's when you're at a loss for words. By doing as much preparatory work as possible, the team on board was able to continue.

Jan De Nul is a very adventurous company and that’s what I like about it. You get the chance to go to places where you would never come in another life: ports, remote areas, large vessels... Just forget the idea that with your computer science degree, you end up behind a desk here.

I never hesitated to start working for Jan De Nul. I know Jan De Nul as an international company in my hometown and I submitted my resume at a job fair. My choice was quickly made, when I heard that Jan De Nul was looking for colleagues willing to go abroad: a unique opportunity!
