Expat, expater, expatst

‘I wanted to work in an international setting. And so, it goes without saying that I was delighted to start work with the Jan De Nul Group immediately after my studies.’

‘I never really settled in Belgium. Nor anywhere else, for that matter,’ Leonardo says with a laugh. ‘I live out of my suitcase and I think that’s great. Two months at work, one month ‘at home’, what’s in a name?” From Argentina to Ghana, Leonardo has worked in about twelve different countries over the last two and a half years. ‘Working in an international team on projects all over the world makes my job very exciting.’

Learning from different working cultures

Leonardo’s job is very much hands on. ‘We’re making things happen!” he says proudly. ‘Although I’m occupied every day with developing and maintaining every possible type of infrastructure on the projects, the biggest challenge for me is still adapting to different working cultures and rhythms. This experience ensures that I also refine my soft skills, as well as my technical knowledge.’ Now that’s a nice working experience.
