Commercial and technical talent is a must!

It is very satisfying to be able to work for a company that is constantly growing, but is also innovating and does not shy away from any challenge. At Jan De Nul Group I have not yet been bored for a single day. There is always a problem somewhere that needs to be solved.

Every day I am in contact with people, whether on board, on a site or with other departments. But I also maintain external contacts with companies and suppliers. That’s why my job is very exciting.

The purchase department is divided into different teams, I am amongst other things responsible for the purchase of technical filters, fire detection installations, ship windows and doors, accommodation but also nautically related components such as life rafts. Hence the range of tasks is very extensive.

Technically as well as commercially you need a strong profile for this function. On the one hand we often work together with various departments such as the technical department, the warehouse and the workshop. On the other hand, we also try to obtain good prices and conditions from suppliers.

There is room for independent work, such as performing tenders, but always in a dynamic team that acts and works in a problem-solving way. That’s why we work in a pleasant atmosphere where everyone plays his part.

I myself once had the unique opportunity to participate on site in the construction of the bypass channel of the Suez canal. In a period of about one year, we have completely executed that project with a large numbers of vessels on site. For such large projects, you actually feel that you are contributing to history, so it is something to remember.
