NOBODY FEARS FOR CHALLENGES WORKING ON THE REMOTE ISLAND OF SAKHALIN
Jan De Nul Group is executing several kinds of projects from the deepening
of existing ports to the development of green fields; for big clients of
the oil and gas industry and exporters of minerals, for port authorities and
new private companies. Jan De Nul is like a magnet for fresh graduates who
aspire to a career abroad.
One of the striking sites is situated around the remote island of Sakhalin off
the East Siberian coast. Here, the company participates in the development
of the Kirinskoye Gas Condensate Field which will be exploited by Gazprom
from 2014 onward and which forms part of the Sakhalin III project.
Four dredgers, auxiliary equipment and about 100 people are based on site
for Jan De Nul Group. The work consists of dredging a 28.5 km long trench
from the coast to the field, and backfilling the trench after installation of
pipelines and cables. Pipelines and cables are covered with rocks to prevent
damage caused by ice during winter.

INTERVIEW WORKING ABROAD IS AN ATTRACTIVE MICROBE
Stijn Juresic Belgian / 32 years / Project Manager
"Working abroad is something special but just like anywhere else, you start at the bottom of the ladder
and little by little you learn to deal with the circumstances. Once you fulfil an executive function, you won't
hold out for a long time without a good amount of immunity to stress. The fact is that you are involved in
large projects with large budgets."
"As a young engineer, you often have to stick up for yourself against experienced consultants, as a result
of which you learn a lot. That's the challenge. You have to meet a certain profile and be made of the right
stuff. And once the microbe gets you, it is very hard to stop."
"Jan De Nul Group not only offers professional challenges, but also boosts your personal development.
Working with other cultures really widen your outlook. Jan De Nul Group also offers the necessary
guidance to bring this kind of job to a favourable conclusion, through a profound professional support
given by the more experienced staff, as well as through a personal support as to practical arrangements.
Anyhow, working on large projects gives a lot of satisfaction. At
the same time, you become a real workaholic because you
are on the job 24/7. On the other hand, you have four months
of leave per year."
